  • Cysts
  • Fibroids
  • Pelvic pain
  • Endometriosis
  • Heavy periods
  • Irregular bleeding

Depending on your specific needs, Dr. Kohatsu creates a comprehensive treatment plan and may suggest surgery to explore the severity of your condition or as a treatment when other options haven’t worked.

What is minimally invasive surgery?

Minimally invasive surgery requires only small incisions that accommodates precise surgical instruments without causing major trauma to your body. As a result, you can expect a lower risk of complications, less bleeding, and a much faster recovery time than with traditional open surgery.

Dr. Kohatsu is experienced in several minimally invasive procedures to address gynecological issues and offers services like:

LEEP: Also known as Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure, this surgical treatment removes abnormal cervical cells and prevents cervical cancer.

Colposcopy: This procedure takes a look at your cervix and vagina following abnormal Pap test results.

Hysteroscopy: This surgical procedure using a thin, lighted tube to identify causes of abnormal bleeding in your uterus.

Endometrial ablation: This surgery destroys the lining of your uterus to treat endometriosis and heavy bleeding.

How does the LEEP procedure prevent cervical cancer?

Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) involves the use of a small, wire loop that Dr. Kohatsu charges with an electrical current. This current heats the wire loop, which then functions as a surgical knife to remove abnormal, precancerous cervical cells which may develop into cancer.

You may need LEEP if you have abnormal Pap test results or if Dr. Kohatsu notices changes in your cervix during a pelvic exam. By removing cells, she can help decrease your risk of cervical cancer.

Dr. Kohatsu may also recommend LEEP if you have genital warts, which may be a sign that you have human papillomavirus (HPV), which can also lead to cancer.

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a painful condition that results when your uterine tissue begins growing outside of your uterus. This tissue continues to act like it normally does, thickening and breaking down during your period.

However, tissue outside of your uterus has no place to go and ultimately gets trapped, causing pain, scar tissue, and fertility issues. Through minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Kohatsu can remove this excess tissue to alleviate pain and prevent fertility struggles.
